Trump’s Court Pick Would Bring Crypto Baggage To The Bench



Eric Tong, a company’s lawyer who has a busy record in representing encryption companies, is preparing to join one of the most influential federal courts in the United States.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump sent Tong’s nomination to the Senate to be the American Circle of the Ninth Circle, which covers Arizona, Idahu, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, California Alaska and Hawaii.

Tong, partner at the Johns Law Office since 2019, has customers including digital currency companies.

Court records indicate that Tung represented the Blockchain Association Group Group, while on Jones in a case presented by six users from Tornado Cash against the US Treasury Department. It also represents an investor that filed a lawsuit against HDR Global Trading Limited, the parent company for Bitmex exchange.

If it is confirmed as a federal judge, it is likely to cover the appeals in cases that involve the work of its headquarters in the Silicon Valley that are presented in the judicial state, which will include many cryptocurrencies.
